A logo looks blurry or pixelated when a small raster file (PNG or JPG) is displayed or printed larger than its pixel dimensions allow, or when it has been compressed repeatedly. The permanent fix is to rebuild it as a vector file. For quick web use, uploading a larger PNG or an SVG usually solves it.
What causes a blurry logo?
- Too few pixels for the size it’s shown at.
- JPG compression, especially after saving or forwarding the file many times.
- Screenshots taken from websites or PDFs.
- Platform resizing, such as social networks and website builders shrinking and re-compressing uploads.
- Retina screens showing a logo at twice the pixel density it was made for.
Quick fixes for websites and social media
- Upload an SVG version if your website supports it; it stays crisp on every screen.
- Otherwise upload a PNG at least twice the display size.
- Use PNG instead of JPG for logos with text and flat colors.
- Check your platform’s recommended profile image size.
